September 26, 2024 at 1:00 PM - Ardmore Board of Education Special Meeting

Call the meeting to order, establish a quorum & state compliance with the Open Meeting Act. [James Foreman, Board President]

Board President, James Foreman, to propose conducting a Termination Due Process Hearing for Betty Planta-Lewis, Special Education Teacher, Will Rogers Early Childhood Center, followed by a vote to begin the proceedings.

Opening of Proceeding:

• Introduction of Parties, Representatives, and Called Witnesses
• Dismissal of Called Witnesses Not Under immediate Examination [if requested by either party]

Opening Statement by the superintendent or his representative - designee.  [five minutes]

Opening statement by Ms. Planta-Lewis or her representative - designee.  [five minutes]

Presentation of superintendent's evidence, followed by cross-examination of witnesses by Ms. Planta-Lewis or her representative - designee.

Questions by the Board of Education.

Presentation of Ms. Planta-Lewis' evidence, followed by cross-examination of witnesses by the superintendent or superintendent's representative - designee.

Questions by the Board of Education.

Presentation of rebuttal and surrebuttal evidence as necessary.

Closing argument by the superintendent or his representative - designee.  [five minutes]

Closing argument by Ms. Planta-Lewis or her representative - designee.  [five minutes]

Board President, James Foreman, to propose an Executive Session, pursuant to Oklahoma Statute Title 25 § 307(B) and (7) to deliberate on the dismissal or not of Betty Planta-Lewis; followed by a vote to convene into Executive Session.

The Board President to declare the Executive Session complete, acknowledge the Board's return to open session, and provide the Executive Session Minutes Compliance Announcement as to who was present in the Executive Session, only the Betty Planta-Lewis hearing proceeding was discussed, no other business was discussed, and no action was taken while in Executive Session.

The Board to take action to accept or reject the superintendent's recommendation for the dismissal of Betty Planta-Lewis and recitation of Findings of Fact upon which the decision is based.

Acceptance of any resignations tendered since the last board meeting.

The Board President, James Foreman, to declare the Due Process Hearing complete and announce a recess until 3:00 p.m.

Board to reconvene at 3:00 pm.

Board Retreat

• The Board will review and consider long-term planning projects that may require funding through the issuance of an FY25 bond. This discussion will include an evaluation of key capital projects and other organizational needs that could benefit from bond financing. Following the review, the Board may vote on proceeding with further information gathering regarding the potential FY25 bond issuance.
