8. LEADERSHIP TEAM REPORT:
Discussion:
Mrs. Shryock and Mrs. Shockey, teachers, and Mrs. Hopper,
HS Principal. addressed the board on the matter of the school's technology being outdated. Mrs. Shryock reported that we have no computer lab and are using first generation I-Pads which were released in 2013 and can no longer be updated. Chromebooks were released in 2015, and can also no longer be updated. Without these being upgraded for the students, it will affect all state testing, school to parent communication, ACT and ACT Workkeys for Juniors and Seniors. The 3rd grade reading test will not be able to be taken and 3rd graders have to pass it to move on to 4th grade. It will have a direct impact on our students. The cost of new I-Pads are $375.00 each (including case and warranty). Pre-K to 4th grade need approximately 20 per classroom. Chromebooks are around $378.00 each. 150 of them will be needed. The board listened and ask that Jarred Barnes, IT, get a quote prepared on what is needed and the cost, and present it at the December Board Meeting. Mr. Shryock addressed the board, for all JH and HS teachers, to look at the policy for grade average vs eligibility. Sharon-Mutual's grades are based on a 10 point scale, and have to be 70% or above to participate in any activity. Mr. Shryock states he has checked with area schools and they are all 10 point scale with 60% passing. He said he has discussed this with Mrs. Hopper and the students will still be held to high standards. Mrs. Hopper states that all the teachers are doing modifications before testing or on testing if the student is giving their all. Mrs. Hopper notifies parents per text regarding student being placed on probation or being ineligible. If they are on the D list and remain there the student is in jeopardy of losing their credits. Board Clerk, Eddie White, stated he thought that was a good idea as long as the students don't start slacking. He suggested acting on this matter at next board meeting, and the rest of the board agreed. |
