II. Discussion and possible action on an exception to EIEDC board policy on Early Graduation

Discussion:
Jewell Bridwell addressed the board on the reasons why she is graduating early. Mr. Karpe asked what exception to the policy she is asking for. Jewell stated she wants to be recognized as a valedictorian in the graduating class of 2027 since she is on track to have a 4.0. Jarred Thomas stated she is under 18 and needed parents' permission for the board to discuss matters with her. Mr. Karpe stated it would be fine since both parents were in attendance. Mr. Inman asked her if the request was for college or USEF (United States Equine Federation). Jewell said it would be for both. She stated she needs the valedictorian status to apply for certain scholarships for college and USEF. Mr. Inman stated she is on track to graduate with the correct number of credits and currently holds a 4.0. Holly Belknap asked Jewell if she was okay with only receiving valedictorian and not the honors that accompany the title or the ability to apply for school scholarships. Jewell answered, yes, she understood. Jewell Bridwell's application for an exception to the valedictorian status on school board policy EIEDC was granted by a vote of 3-0 if she meets the criteria for graduation and valedictorian. This exception to the policy limits her to having the right to wear white at graduation. The remainder of the board policy, EIEDC, remains in effect.

Mr. Karpe gave the superintendent's report. He went over the utilities report and updated the board on construction around campus. Mrs. Hembree gave an elementary report. She talked about the reading strategies in elementary and the Strong Readers Program.
