IV.A. Superintendent's Report
Discussion:
Mr. Chapman started with the membership report. He stated the numbers are up from last month. We have several students doing virtual right now, but overall membership is good. We have many of our high school and middle school students in quarantine right now due to Covid. They are able to participate in the virtual program, so students will not be behind when they return. We have had several students test positive in the high school and middle school. The administration was looking into keeping the elementary open and distance learning with our older students. He feels the older students are better equipped to handle distance learning and our elementary has not had any student test positive. This is still something we are discussing. We are trying to keep school open so students will still be able to participate in their extracurricular activities. A few board members recommended mask for our older students to try to prevent distance learning. They feel this is the best defense against the virus. Mr. Chapman stated one health department official told him if teachers and staff wore mask than the students in their class would not have to quarantine, but this was not the case. The health department has still quarantined students even with the teachers wearing mask. The board discussed what would be a good option for the district right now. Mr. Chapman stated he would have an administration meeting the following morning and let the board know what steps were to be taken. The board discussed basketball attendance. They recommended mask should be required at all basketball events. Mr. Chapman went over the transportation and utilities report.
