6. SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT: JEFF THOMPSON
Discussion:
Mr. Thompson reminded the board to keep an eye on a couple of legislative issues.
He stated it looks like the school board election date change is going to pass, and the election date will be moved to November. Discussed Budgeting and Funding which he stated the state is strong on budget, approximately a billion dollars ahead, but he doubts the schools will get much of the funds. He reminded the board members of the special meeting to be held June 7, 2022, at 12:00 p.m. for the selling of the bonds. There must be three board members present. He then talked to the board about other training opportunities they can go to, in person and not online, for the credit they need. There are two district meetings during the year, which occur in the spring and in the fall. Mr. Thompson and Board President Bill J Clem attended the spring meeting in Mooreland a couple of weeks ago. Bill J Clem stated it was very interesting and they both enjoyed it. August 25-28, 2022 is the Annual School Board Conference. Mr. Thompson stated the board members previously attended this conference yearly until Covid hit. He believes the board members need to make it a priority to attend this year so they can network with other board members. Saturday is the most productive day of the conference, so they discussed going down on Friday August 26th, and attending the conference on August 27th. 6 hours of credit will be given to those attending. Mr. Thompson then brought up that he had received his voter registration card and the legislature has closed the Mutual voting precinct . Everyone in that precinct will now have to vote in Sharon. He stated that doing that will do great damage to the school. The legislature is looking at it as it being inefficient to have both Sharon and Mutual so close together. He stressed that the school must have a plan and be relevant to continue. We are underfunded compared to surrounding schools and have excess cost with two sites. Lastly, he stated we desperately need to pass a Transportation Bond. Mr. B. Shryock, one of the bus drivers, told the board about the many daily issues they are having with buses and suburbans. There are 300 voters, and 250 of them must vote for the bond to pass. |
