III.A. Subject - Growth and School Facility Study

Discussion:
Discussion of engineered study of student and population growth and existing facilities checklist recommendations, all completed in one study in order to cut cost. Mr. Smith explained that a study of facilities is needed to show capacity, efficiency, usage, electrical, plumbing, and life expectancy with regard to current population and expected population growth. This study can run up to $200,000. The LED Grant may pay for up to half. Gordonsville Mayor John Potts explained upcoming housing growth in that area of the county. Gordonsville High School Principal Shane Vaden explained that the Jr. High is full at GHS. All rooms are currently in use. Feeding more students in the cafeteria is also a challenge. The process of building a new school will take 5-7 years. That's why there needs to be a study to get the process started.
