Rationale: 

It is 5:____p.m. and I now call to order the Grand Island Public Schools Board of Education Meeting.  This is the April 11, 2024 meeting.  Notice of this meeting has been advertised in the Grand Island Independent, which is the District's designated method of giving notice of these meetings.

We want those in attendance to know that copies of the Open Meetings Act are available at the entrance to the Board Room.  If anyone in attendance is interested in addressing our Board, you are welcome to do so.  We simply request that you complete the appropriate form and turn it in to us so that you may be recognized during the Requests to Address the Board part of our meeting.  If you have not already completed the form, please see the staff person outside the entrance to this room.  Public comment is welcome. We do ask that no signs be brought into the boardroom.

Rationale:  The first item on the agenda tonight is the Consent Agenda.  The Consent Agenda to be approved is as follows:

Rationale: 

• Each person addressing the board will be allowed 5 minutes. The Board of Education has the prerogative to limit speaking to 3 minutes when there are three or more patrons to allow speakers an opportunity to address the Board in a timely manner.
• We allocate up to 30 minutes for addressing the board at each regular board meeting.
• Please face the Board,  not the audience when you speak
• We want to hear what is being said so we ask the audience to refrain from making comments or sounds that make it hard to hear the speaker. 
• No signs are allowed in the boardroom.
• We will not engage in dialogue with patrons presenting to the Board, the purpose of the requests to address the board is to listen to patrons.
• The Board president and superintendent will identify staff to follow-up on information requested from patrons when necessary.
• At regular business meetings any school district-related matter can be presented to the Board, but only agenda items can be acted upon during a given meeting. At special meetings, comments will be limited to the subject of action items of the meeting's agenda. 
• Speakers will not be permitted to make defamatory comments, or use abusive or vulgar language. 
• Expressions of personal complaints about staff or students are discouraged at public meetings. Concerns about individuals should be brought to the attention of the appropriate administrative authority. Specific building or program concerns should be brought to the attention of the building principal or program supervisor.

Rationale:  Tax Increment Financing (TIF)

Rationale:  The HOSA student organization at GISH has received a grant that requires an annual update to the Board of Education. Megan Stone, HOSA teacher leader, will provide an update on HOSA activities.

Rationale:  I would like to formally invite the Board of Education to the celebration.

Rationale:  Jeff Gilbertson and Matt Wichman will present an update on revisions to the Academies of Grand Island Senior High

Rationale:  The middle school admin team provided an update in March of 2023 and will provide revisions to be implemented in 2024-2025 to include schedule changes and revised courses.

Rationale:  Purchase 3000 student sets of Algebra 2 Open Up / Mathematics Vision Project consumables. Based on current enrollment patterns, we anticipate these materials lasting 6 years. Additional funds within this needs analysis will be used to provide initial training for new staff using the materials for the first time in July 2024. Ten days of instructional planning and coaching support will also be provided by Mathematics Vision Project trainers throughout the year for teachers using Open Up Geometry and Algebra 2 materials.

Rationale:  The use of Math Links essentials, combined with intentional use of formative assessment data from core, collaborative planning opportunities for games and other activities, and student-monitoring strategies, will allow teachers to have access to resources to support a variety of student needs.

Rationale:  GIPS commits to "Implementation of standards-based learning through adoption and implementation of high-quality instructional materials aligned to grade-level standards." The subscription for our high-quality instructional resource for 6-12 ELA, myPerspectives needs to be renewed for 3 years.

Rationale:  GIPS uses the Zoho product to manage it's fleet of endpoint devices.  This system provides, inventory, remote support, and patching services to our endpoints.  This is a renewal of an existing agreement.  The 3 year agreement provides a substantial discount.

Rationale:  GIPS is going through a major upgrade to it's WAN facilities this spring, and adding these two data center switches will provide resiliency and support for our daily operations and disaster recovery objectives.  The additional professional service will provide needed support for reconfiguring all our existing switching infrastructure to take advantage of the new network architecture as it's built and deployed.

Rationale:  A team of GIPS administrators annually review the Student/Parent Handbook for needed changes due to changes in policy and/or procedures. Dr. Dexter will present recommended changes.

Rationale:  In order to streamline Business Office payroll and other procedures concerning the Activity Fund the Business Office would like to move the Activity Fund bank account from Five Points Bank to Wells Fargo Bank.  We'll maintain our banking relationship with Five Points Bank albeit via an investment account or other necessary bank accounts.
