9.7. Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) Proposed Health Standards and Resolution
Rationale:
Recently, the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) released Draft Health Standards they are proposing. These standards have been very controversial because they include matters of faith and morals and infringe on the required separation of church from state in public schools.
Local School Boards are not required to adopt the Nebraska Health Standards. Since NDE's proposed health standards have been so widely publicized and controversial, Dr. Gilson is recommending the school board pass a resolution that is being recommended by Senator Hansen along with 29 other Senators who have signed off on the bill. The resolution informs the Board determines the parents and guardians are the primary educators of their own children, especially in matters of faith and morals, including sex education.
